Polycystic ovary syndrome is the most common endocrine disorder of women of all ages – from puberty to menopause. It affects 5-10% of the female population. It is considered the most common cause of infertility in women.
PCOS includes disorders at the level of metabolism (obesity, diabetes mellitus, hyperandrogenism), as well as disorders at the level of the ovaries (OLIGO/ANOVULATION).
Insulin resistance and compensatory (consequential) hyperinsulinemia affect 65-70% of women with PCOS, among whom 70-80% are obese (BMI>30) and 20-50% with normal body weight (22<BMI<25). Quatrefolic is the glucosamine salt of (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate.
Folic acid, like dietary folic acid, is not biologically active and must be converted to metabolically active 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) through a multistep process where the enzyme methyltetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHER) plays a key role.
Individuals, due to their genetic characteristics, have polymorphic forms of this enzyme, do not produce adequate or effective MTHFR.
Quatrefolic completely bypasses the conversion step of damaged MTHFR and delivers folic acid that can be used immediately by the body without the need for metabolism.
Quatrefolic guarantees greater solubility in water and better stability.
